The Champion

The Champion-the second of Chaplin's films while at the Essanay's Niles, Ca. location, was released on March 11, 1915. Two things standout in this film. For the first time in Chaplin's work, a real love connection is present in the love scenes. This presence is most likely there because of Chaplin's real-life energing love for his leading lady-Edna Purviance. The second standout is the burlesque prize fight scene. It ranks amongest the best of the time; and if you look closely you'll see Broncho Billy as one of the spectators. To view a BIG Photo of NOW location click here here.
