A Night Out

A Night Out - Charlie's first film shot for Essanay in Niles, California. As you will see, some scenes were shot in Oakland, California too. This motion picture was released February 15, 1915 and features the first screen appearance of the beautiful Edna Purviance.

Although these two locations presented below would seem rather easy to find, because so little has changed, it took many hours of painstaking research work, by author and historian David Kiehn, just to find a possible location in Oakland, California. My hat goes off to David for this marvelous rediscovery. Be sure to look for David's book, next year, that will detail Broncho Billy Anderson and Essanay from 1907-1916.
